A Harvest Time Experiment
The first graders are already learning to take an experimental approach to science. Experiments give the children a hands on experience that is fun as well as instructive. In this lesson, the students sorted their seeds based on shape, size and color. Then they categorized their seeds, took out their microscopes, and adjusted the lenses for a very close look at the similarities and difference among their specimens. They learned a lot about scientific methodology and how to use a microscope. Their teacher, Mrs. Robillard said that everyone agreed that using microscopes was “awesome.”
